Steve McCurry - Claire

Like James Nachtwey, Steve McCurry is also a powerful portrait photographer. He
covers many armed conflicts, winning multiple awards for his ability to portray
the human effect of war.

I really like his quote, “most of my images are grounded in people. I look for the unguarded moment, the essential soul peeking out, experience etched on a person’s face. I try to convey what it is like to
be that person, a person caught in a broader landscape, that you could call thehuman condition.”

McCurry became most famous with his shot “Afghan girl” which was named by National Geographic as the “most recognized photograph.” I remember the first time I saw this portrait, I was
blown away. McCurry shoots in both digital and film, but his favorite film is transparent film, or Kodachrome.
